Why Moving To Richmond Virginia Is Such A Great Idea

Moving to Richmond Virginia is a wonderful idea. The state's slogan is "Virginia is for Lovers," and never is this more true than in the city of Richmond itself, particularly if you are lover of history. Richmond has some amazing sites commemorating the American Revolution, including St. John's Episcopal Church. Additionally, those who are interested in the Civil War can enjoy the Virginia Historical Society and the Museum of the Confederacy. Additionally, there is plenty to do for those who love nature, the fine arts and literature. Finally, it is the place to be for those who like a bargain: many attractions cost less than $10 to enter, and some are even free. Let's take a look at some information on Richmond itself, and a number of its most notable sites.

Great Things About Richmond

If you are considering moving to Richmond, you will have a lot to look forward to. It is a relaxed city where people have a positive outlook on life. What really makes it special, however, is the fact that you will never be short of opportunities for things to do. This is particularly true if you are raising a family. Additionally, the school system is very good, which means your children will be able to get the education they need. Let's take a look at some of the places where you could go to once you have moved to Richmond.

Maymont

Maymont was once the home of Major James H. and his wife Sallie Dooley. They were incredibly wealthy, which clearly shows when you look at the property. But they decided that after they pass away, the city will have their home and the accompanying grounds. The property spans 100 acres and is one of the most popular attractions in the city, both for residents and tourists. It has stunning Japanese gardens that are not to be missed, as well as a petting zoo, a carriage collection, and an arboretum. The mansion itself, which has 33 rooms, is absolutely beautiful. It is only 15 minutes from the downtown area on foot, which means you could even decide to pop in on a whim.

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA)

The VMFA is an impressive museum. Its collection is vast and looks like it would normally be found in much larger cities. Many people find it to be one of the better museums of fine arts in the world, not in the least because of the gorgeous architecture of the building itself. It has five Faberge eggs, as well as works of art by Cezanne, Degas and Renoir. Additionally, it has primitive art collections from around the globe.

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden

The botanical garden is found in the north of Richmond and is a favorite among residents and tourists alike. There are several Japanese water irises, daffodils, roses and osmathus. The garden spans various areas with each having its own theme. There are also many family activities that could be undertaken in the gardens themselves, such as the November and January GardenFest of Lights, the Goblins and Gourds event at Halloween and the Spring Fling, which takes place every May.

Kings Dominion

The Kings Dominion is a fantastic theme park to take your family to. It is very well maintained and has some amazing water and other rides, including the Intimidator 305, which has an exciting drop. This one is not for the faint of heart, in other words. They also have various other roller coasters as well as a water park that is kid-friendly. A fantastic day out for the entire family can certainly be had here.
